There are two types of charity: registered and unregistered.
Chartres that receive more than £5,000 a year needs to, register with us. But you can still set up a charity if your income will be less than £5,000, so long as it is set up with charitable aims and you can demonstrate public benefit. Find out what this means:
Public benefit - detailed guidance
Charitable aims (purposes) - detailed guidance
All charities need a governing document - a rule book to help them run and stick to their aims. The type of governing document you need depend on the structure of your charity. Many small charities will use a constitution as their governing document.
